European Union Chamber Orchestra Concert To Feature CYMT Students
A select number of CYMT’s advanced students will be joining the European Union Chamber Orchestra (EUCO) for a very special concert in Taunton on Saturday 24 February 2018 at 7.30pm. They will be performing alongside their professional counterparts in the premiere of ‘a light exists’ by Anna Disley-Simpson. The concert promises to be a wonderful evening with soloist Crispian Steele-Perkins in Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto and Purcell’s Suite for Trumpet, and the orchestra will also play Mozart’s Symphony No. 29.

The EUCO gave its first concerts in 1981 and soon gained an international reputation as a musical ambassador for the European Union. Funding from the European Commission enabled EUCO to make its name familiar worldwide with tours to East Asia, Thailand and Indochina, North, South and Central America, North Africa, India and the Middle East as well as across Europe. It regularly performs in major concert halls throughout the UK and has broadcast several times live on BBC Radio 3. Recent highlights included the Bath Festival with Alison Balsom and a tour of Christmas concertos with Nicola Benedetti and since 2014 the orchestra’s schedule has included tours of Spain, Germany, Luxemburg, Turkey, Malta and Egypt alongside regular education work in the UK and CD recordings.
EUCO has performed for many major European Festivals and in many famous concert halls including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Vienna Musikverein, the Frankfurter Alte Oper , Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Symphony Hall in Birmingham, Madrid’s National Concert Hall, Milan’s Sala Verdi, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Pallas Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
Many distinguished artists have performed with EUCO on its tours including Mischa Maisky, Julian Lloyd Webber, James Galway, Ivo Pogorelich, Gil Apap, Nicola Benedetti, Tasmin Little, Yehudi Menuhin, Igor Oistrakh, Alina Ibragimova, Lazar Berman, Freddy Kempf, John Lill and Emma Johnson.
A special feature of EUCO’s schedule are the concerts and experience it gives to young soloists through its Aladdin Project.
