Bursaries for young musicians 2017-18

We are delighted to announce that the Guildhall School has generously allocated bursary funding to CYMT for this academic year.  These bursaries for young musicians will mean students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend can access the excellent coaching at CYMT.

The bursaries, which are assisted places provided under the Guildhall School’s Access Agreement, are intended for students in years 9-13, ideally advanced level musicians (i.e. grade 6+), who are from families who would otherwise be unable to afford the CYMT fees.

The Guildhall School is committing to and investing in young musicians, and the awards will support the students to attend CYMT right through to year 13.

An assisted place will be offered on a recurrent basis provided that the student continues to be eligible under the conditions below, has an excellent participation record, and shows progression in their studies.  An assisted place will comprise either a full or a partial fee waiver.

To be eligible for consideration a Guildhall Young Artist student must meet all three criteria:

(1) be resident in one of the target London boroughs, or attend a target school, or attend a CYM regional centre,

(2) be in care for a full fee waiver or come from a family with a declared household residual income (see below) of less than £30,000 per year for a full fee waiver, or between £30,000 and £46,000 for a partial fee waiver, and

(3) have significant potential to benefit from the programme.

Leverhulme Arts Scholarships have been made available to students at CYM after a successful bid by the Foundation for Young Musicians (FYM) and the Guildhall School Development Department.

The Leverhulme Arts Scholarships are ‘prestige awards’ and should be applied for in the same way as Guildhall School Access Agreement bursaries – see information given below.

Given the cost of travel in the region and the large catchment area, students from West Somerset in receipt of an assisted place at CYM Taunton will be eligible to apply for a travel bursary of up to £210 per academic year. Evidence of residence will need to be provided to the regional centre.

With all bursaries awarded, data sharing (student name, DOB, address, course) with the Guildhall School must be agreed.
