There will be bands, orchestra, music technology, singing junk percussion, music theory for beginners, and music theory fast-track to Grade 5.

Open to instrumentalists and singers, the course will be hugely beneficial for students of GCSE / A Level Music, and will help all students improve music performance, skills and confidence.

The course is designed to provide students aged 10-18, grades 3-8, with intensive yet enjoyable training to develop both creative and instrumental / vocal skills and complimenting their regular term time activities both in and out of school.

The week will end with a showcase concert for families and friends during the final afternoon.

Places are available for all ensemble instruments: strings, woodwind (including saxophones and recorder), brass, percussion, guitar and bass guitar, and piano/keyboards.

All students will play in small and large instrumental ensembles and will also have access to creative music making, singing, and theory of music. Creative music technology is offered to students aged 13-18.

The course will be led by CYMT tutors supported by a pastoral team engaged to ensure the well-being of all children throughout the course.

The age limits and ability levels should be taken as guidelines. CYM Taunton will consider applications on the fringes of these levels if the course is deemed suitable for their needs.

Practical workshops for wind band, jazz band, and orchestra will be open to all instrumentalists of a minimum standard equivalent to Grade 3 ABRSM or Trinity College London. Led by brass specialist Jim Bennett, all the bands and orchestra parts will be arranged as appropriate for the level of the players including for a ‘covers’ band with brass section.

Creative young musicians interested in arranging, sequencing, sampling and mixing music on computer using Logic will love this course led by studio expert Hayley Burgess. Any genre of music, no previous music production experience necessary. Suggested minimum age: 13.

Ideal for musicians who are preparing for ABRSM/Trinity Grades 1-5 Theory qualifications. Starting from scratch and want a beginner’s course? Want to go fast-track to Grade 5? The course will be tailored to suit students’ needs. Led by flute player & teacher and theory expert Sarah Clarke-Lander, students are encouraged to bring any theory questions causing concern.

Led by singing expert Lisa Tustian, these dynamic and exciting singing workshops will help improve all students’ vocal skills and develop repertoire across a wide variety of styles from sacred music to West End & Broadway musical theatre hits. Lisa’s junk percussion workshops are legendary and great fun for all.
