Autumn term 2018 at CYMT

The Autumn term 2018 at CYMT promises to be action-packed with excellent music lessons and concerts for all.

The term begins with an open day on Saturday 8 September 9am – 1pm in the Willow Building at Richard Huish College Taunton.  There will be free music workshops for 5s – 18s and a free workshop performance by the Pixels Ensemble, in conjunction with Concerts in the West.  It’d be great if you are able to let young musicians know about the open day.

Right: Amelie Donovan, flute, who’ll be performing at Stogumber Festival 2018.

On Sunday 9 September flute player and CYMT student Amelie Donovan will be giving a recital with harpist and Wells Cathedral School student Jess Hughes as part of Stogumber Festival 2018. The recital will be at 11am at St Mary’s Church in Stogumber and everyone is welcome.

Repertoire includes music by Debussy, Handel, Prière, Gaubert, Elgar, Martinu, Fauré, Godard, and Spanish composer Jésus Guridi.  Free admission, there will be a retiring collection.

On Monday 10 September CYMT is delighted to be presenting a Music Teachers’ CPD Seminar on Understanding Autism. It will take place at 10am to 12pm at Creative Innovation Centre CIC, Memorial Hall, Paul Street, Taunton, Somerset TA1 3PF. Doors open 9.45am. Limited spaces. Tickets are just £20. CICCIC is 50 yards from Taunton’s multi-storey car park and there are two other car parks near by (M&S and High Street).

The Music Teachers’ CPD Seminar on Understanding Autism is designed for instrumental / vocal teachers who work with students who have Autism. It will be delivered by expert in the field of Autism, Ruth Garbett, Advisor to The Cedar Centre.  It promises to be a very worthwhile event. There will be a chance to ask questions which we hope will lead to interesting discussions, and the opportunity to network over a free coffee / tea / juice.
