Now We Are Six… and you’re invited to our party!
We’d love to share with you springtime news from Centre for Young Musicians Taunton (CYMT) – a division of the Guildhall School. Here is the link to our newsletter (same as text below): https://mailchi.mp/1aa9ad4f229f/springnewsfromcymtfeb2020
Before we tell you about the exciting events coming up very soon (6th birthday party NEXT SATURDAY!) we remember the fantastic evening in October 2019 when CYMT singers joined forces with Fusion Performers from Minehead to present An Evening With Sir Tim Rice. It was recorded for radio broadcast by BBC Somerset and transmitted on 28 December and 1 January.
In November 2019 CYMT instrumentalists performed the world premiere of Guildhall School composition student and ex-Huish student Joshua Hathaway’s intriguing and atmospheric “Somerset Serenade” at the first Tyca (Taunton Youth Culture & Arts) Festival.
In December 2019 CYMT was fortunate to be visited by The Kenley Quartet from Guildhall School. James Flannery, Ivelina Krasteva, Joana Praca & Benedict Swindells worked with students in rehearsals and workshops and then performed an excellent concert for everyone. A few days later young CYMT students performed brilliantly with violinist Sebastian Tesouro in Carols by Candlelight in aid of NSPCC.
Also in December we were delighted to announce CYMT has received a grant following from The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation. The grant of £2,000 has been specifically awarded to help run a new programme in 2020 called ‘CYMT Young Composers’. The Centre will host a visiting composer for several visits each term this year whose role it will be to support and work with students developing their own new music. Working closely with the Composition Department of Guildhall School of Music & Drama, we look forward to welcoming our first ever ‘Composer in Residence’ very soon.
Here are the details of our upcoming events. Any queries please call CYMT on 01823 424745.
