CYMT plans for summer term 2020

CYMT plans for summer term 2020

We are pleased to say we are currently teaching all lessons online.  No face-to-face lessons are allowed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Guildhall School suspended all face-to-face teaching from Wednesday 18 March 2020. Where possible teaching will be moved online until the end of the summer term 2020.

We’re all facing uniquely challenging circumstances in the current situation. Therefore, to help cope with the uncertainties we’ve been developing the most comprehensive offer possible. We want to enable students to access high quality, individually tailored, sociable and safe music and acting learning from home.

In the last two weeks of March 2020 we arranged and delivered a range of activities using a variety of online platforms and apps. We received lots of positive feedback.

These activities will be extended and built on throughout the summer term, starting on Friday 24 April 2020. They will include:

Weekly activities for children aged 5 – 18:

  • 1:1 lessons
  • small group learning:
  • musicianship
  • composition
  • songwriting
  • music production
  • theory of music
  • conducting
  • acting / speech & drama
  • creative career planning

Ensemble activities for children aged 5 – 18:

  • exploring repertoire and performance styles
  • preparing parts for virtual multi-track performances and “when we’re back” live concerts

Solo performances for children aged 5 – 18.

We’ll also have an online festival and plan to live stream Guildhall School masterclasses. We’ll hold composition, song-writing and instrumental competitions.

OUR NEW OFFER FOR ADULT LEARNERS

This is a special offer for current students’ parents/carers or other family members including other family members in isolation. If you would like to take up individual music or acting lessons with CYMT tutors during the summer term 2020 we can help make this happen. For music it will depend on the instrument(s) you have to hand.
Here is the list of lessons available to parents/carers or other family members:
  • acting / speech & drama
  • music production – using GarageBand or similar app
  • composition using Sibelius
  • theory of music
  • woodwind instruments – flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, recorder
  • brass instruments – French horn, trumpet, trombone
  • percussion instruments – piano, snare drum, triangle, glockenspiel, xylophone, vibraphone, drum kit
  • stringed instruments – harp, violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele
  • singing / voice
The lessons for parents/carers/family would be arranged to take place online weekly using Microsoft Teams. The costs are £20.00 per 30-minute lesson pro rata. Lessons can be 30-minutes, 45-minutes or 60-minutes, they need to be booked in blocks of 10 and must be paid for in advance. If you wished to continue lessons beyond summer 2020 we would review the situation in September and see if this is possible.
