Jo Lewis – Lower Strings

hcym 2016 018 Jo smallerJo studied cello with Anthony Lewis of the Medici String Quartet whilst studying for a BA(Hons) at Kingston University.  Following this she remained in London working as a session player for many years, working with a bands such as Divine Comedy, the legendary singer/songwriter John Martyn and jazz singer Claire Martin OBE.

Since her return to Somerset, Jo now combines performing with teaching, both privately and in local schools, playing regularly with the Bristol String Quartet, and Jo is the orchestral manager for Wedmore Opera.

Jo enjoys working at Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians, where teaches individual students and runs two ensembles – cello group and string ensemble. Jo does most of the arranging for the groups and recent performances have included pieces such as “Worried Man Blues” (trad), “What shall we do with the drunken sailor” (trad), “Summer” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, “William Tell Overture” by Rossini, and “Jingle Bells”.
